Reading...is a good habit

I loved to read since I was very young, perhaps because even though we have just one life, I wanted to be on that spaceship to the moon, I wanted to go 20,000 leagues under the sea, I wanted to drink tea with Alice in Wonderland and learn a magic spell from Harry Potter. And this love of reading defined the entire course of my life eventually.

Innumerable brilliant men/women have left the fingerprints of their minds for us so that we can absorb that information and build on it; all we have to do is open a book and begin.

If you propose to speak...

“If you propose to speak, always ask yourself, is it true, is it necessary, is it kind” –Buddha

“Is It True? Is It Necessary? Is It Kind?

Oh! Stay, dear child, one moment stay,

Before a word you speak,

That can do harm in any way

To the poor, or to the weak;

And never say of any one

What you’d not have said of you,

Ere you ask yourself the question,

“Is the accusation true?”

And if ’tis true, for I suppose

You would not tell a lie;

Before the failings you expose

Of friend or enemy:

Yet even then be careful, very;

Pause and your words well weigh,

And ask ft it be necessary,

What you’re about to say.

And should it necessary be,

At least you deem it so,

Yet speak not unadvisedly

Of friend or even foe,

Till in your secret soul you seek

For some excuse to find;

And ere the thoughtless word you speak,

Ask yourself, “Is it kind?”

When you have ask’d these questions three—

True,—Necessary,—Kind,—

Ask’d them in all sincerity,

I think that you will find,

It is not hardship to obey

The command of our Blessed Lord,—

No ill of any man to say;

No, not a single word.

Idiot Box: Part 11

  Reviewing TV shows -

Counterpart - Too slow, gave up halfway. Dark is a far better show (based on a similar theme). 1/5.

Mr. Robot Loved the first season then it got boring and tiring. 2/5.

The Middle Hilarious. I have seen all seasons and laughed out loud in every episode. 4/5.

Blackish Great theme, bad actors, it needs better actors with better chemistry. Some shows were laughing out loud funny but again needs better actors. 3/5.

The Missing Heart wrenching. 5/5.

Fashion 1 0 1 : Part 8

BT cotton is cotton in which a gene has been added from a bacteria to produce a toxin - this patent is owned by a big company (Monsanto) and a poor farmer has to go to the company to buy seeds, these seeds are extremely expensive. The pesticides that are used to produce the cotton for our clothes is spoiling the soil. Use of fertilizers pesticides increases toxicity in the region where cotton is grown, it causes cancer, birth defects and many such illnesses. There are also weaving mills, dyers (Chemicals are used to dye) and tanneries polluting earth and water and also making people working on them and living close to them sick because of the proximity of all the toxic materials. Clothes are not biodegradable that means if you throw them they will sit on the land for many years.

I express my grief over many things like (a) people don’t work out, eat junk, parents feed their kids restaurant food/ processed/unhealthy food every other day (b) animals are killed for food and for making leather for humans (c) many do not know even the basics of gender equality (d) clothing industry is treating the laborers/ environment poorly - people tell me not to think about it - enjoy your day, why do you have to think about all this they say.

But I believe we should care. Let’s not merely, just exist. Let’s live a conscious life. If we are talking about long term sustainability and well-being on this planet then the industry will have to change and also ‘we’ have to change.

to be continued...

Repeat!

I have heard this from many people - we get bored with the same clothes. I would get bored too if I didn't wear it in a different way every time.

Take pride in repeating clothes, spark some creativity in repurposing what you already own, buy things that really add value to your closet and don't go for hoarding.

Strong Women

I HAD to buy this tank top as soon as saw it. The lady on it makes quite a statement.

This one is for the strong women of the world.

May be you know them, may be you are one of them but most definitely raise them (to be strong)....

The Americanization

Every time I visit India I see Americanization of the country. Pubs, clubs, music, movies, clothing, dress lengths, influence of English, consumerism... everything is Americanized.

They are all very convenient and easy things that have been accepted by the Indians.

The hard things that need to be ingrained from the Americans would be their work ethics, punctuality, honesty, cleanliness, organization skills, innovation, providing for yourself from an early age and some driving sense.

I wonder when would India be Americanized in a true sense!

About my style blog

Visit blogadda.com to discover Indian blogs My style is extremely simple, I am not so much into jewelry, hairdos and makeup. So if you are into Chanel and such brands then you are not going to like my blog.

Through my blog I do not want to motivate people to buy new stuff but show how things can be mixed and matched to create a different looking outfit altogether everyday and the basic things one needs to have in their closet - things that go well with anything and everything.

Red Lipstick

Shoes, a beautiful dress, new haircut, jewelry are all trivial material things, in all honesty it should not matter because people say our inner self is what matters.
Once I went to meet a friend who was down with severe bronchitis. She was wearing a nice dress and a red lipstick, she didn't look sick at all. 'You look good' I said. While pricking her skin with a needle (for her gestational diabetes) she said 'Exactly! I look good and so I feel good'.

Our physical form is strongly connected to our identity, that is how we interact with the world around us. The exterior matters as much as the interior...
